Isabelle Faust & Alexander Melnikov combine their talents
Acclaimed artists Isabelle Faust and Alexander Melnikov are on tour this month, in support of their February harmonia mundi release with Jean-Guihen Queyras: Beethoven's Piano Trios Opp.70 & 97. Faust and Melnikov perform together in New York, Vermont, Utah and Toronto. Of their January 20th Kimmel Center concert, The Philadelphia Inquirer wrote:
"Faust and Melnikov kept the sound envelope small, yet revealed the world of experience that could be found in such narrow boundaries...Every moment had a jewellike coherence, often with a sense of strong emotion under wraps."
The new release from these three eminent Beethovenians - Faust, Melnikov and Queyras - presents the composer’s last two works in the genre, Op.70 No.2 (1808), dedicated to Countess Marie Erdödy, and the celebrated ‘Archduke’ (1811) that marked the final public appearance of its composer. It was Beethoven who gave the piano trio the form it was to retain throughout the 19th century, by allowing the string instruments the status of genuinely equal partners.
