"The Road To Jajouka" Live at Le Poisson Rouge
Bachir Attar and The Master Musicians of Jajouka, along with Billy Martin, Marc Ribot, Shahzad Ismailey and DJ Logic from the tribute album The Road to Jajouka, will give a special performance at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City on June 15. The artists will also bring Jajouka’s rich musical tradition to the Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, TN on June 13.
The Master Musicians of Jajouka hail from an ancient village perched in foothills of the Rif Mountains in Northern Morocco. For generations, the Attar family has maintained one of the world’s most unique and enduring musical traditions. The album The Road to Jajouka, available now on Howe Records, is a tribute to these traditions, featuring new performances and remixes created by western 'master' musicians.
The Jajouka album includes visionary musicians Flea from The Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Zorn, Ornette Coleman, Howard Shore, Medeski Martin & Wood and Mickey Hart. The Road to Jajouka was both a Best World Album of 2013 and one of the 50 Best Albums of 2013 on iTunes. One hundred percent of the net profits from the sale of this album go to The Jajouka Foundation.
"['Boujeloudia Magick'] takes on a more hallucinogenic effect with a combination of rhythmic percussion and swirly guitars...then builds to a frenzied and abrupt ending."

"Recommending this remarkable release is easy... This is world music, envisioned and re-imagined by musicians...removed from the safety and boredom of the mainstream."
"The closer, 'Al'Aita,' which weaves the MMoJ into composer Howard Shore's score for the...London Philharmonic Orchestra, is unexpectedly striking."
