St. Paul's Cathedral Choir Returns to the U.S. for its First Tour in More Than Ten Years
U.S. TOUR APRIL 16-29, 2015
The world-famous St. Paul's Cathedral Choir with Music Director Andrew Carwood will tour the U.S. in April 2015 for the first time since 2003. St. Paul's Cathedral in London has strong ties to the U.S.; it is home to the American Memorial Chapel, where Thanksgiving services are held each year for Americans living in London. The April 2015 tour will be followed by visits in 2018 and 2021, renewing the Choir's relationship with the U.S. and forging new friendships and fans.
The Choir's tour program centers around Thomas Tallis and William Byrd and the music that one would hear at St. Paul's Cathedral daily services. In recent years, the Choir has established itself as one of the major forces in British church music. Outside regular duties in the cathedral, the Choir frequently gives concerts and broadcasts and has many notable recordings including their most recent, Canticles on Hyperion Records. For addition information, watch the videos, narrated by Andrew Carwood.
The Canticles are the crowning glory of the Anglican liturgy and have afforded the greatest opportunity for musical development within the Anglican rite. A Gramophone Magazine Editor's Choice, St. Paul's Cathedral Choir's Canticles is a satisfying collection including nineteenth-century masterpieces by Stanford and Charles Wood, and from the twentieth century Walton’s Coronation Te Deum, written for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and Tippett’s monumental work for St. John’s College Cambridge.
